My Story

On September 1st 2025 I put on my running kit and set off for a jog on Ludshott Common, North East Hampshire, something I had done countless numbers of times before. This day, however, was going to be totally different. Just before 0800 whilst jogging I suffered an Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest, fewer than 1 in 10 people survive this. I was lucky that I was found quickly by another jogger who dialed 999 and started CPR. The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Critical Care Team was dispatched at 0809. and were with me 30 mins later Following a combination of early CPR, fantastic support from the First Responder using a Defibrillator, and the arrival of 3 Paramedics, I was stabilized. Once the Air Crew arrived they continued to work on me and I was put into a induced coma. Once they were happy to move me I was put into the back of the helicopter and flown to QA Portsmouth where I stayed for 2 weeks.

I am one of the very few lucky ones who survive with no lasting damage, there is no doubt in my mind the reason for this is the starting of CPR quickly, the actions of the First Responder and the 3 Paramedics combinded with the deployment of the Air Ambulance.  I will be for every grateful to them for giving me my life back.

It is not only the Air Crew but the After Care team who have been fantastic and have helped me and my wife peice together the 90 mins I was lying on the ground and what was done for me.

These wonderful people are the reason why I have decided to run the 10k to raise money and keep them flying to help other people. WIthout them I would not be here today.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance are a charity and do not receive government funding, but instead rely on the generosity of the local community to help fund their next life-saving mission.
